Pessac Leognan

Domaine de Chevalier

Description

Originally, there is the small estate of Chivaley with a few acres of vineyards and a lot of forest. Its rise, under the name of Domaine de Chevalier, dates from the second half of the 19th, under the impulse of two brothers, Arnaud and Jean Ricard, then their descendants who carry the estate to the top of the appellation.Since 1983, it is the Bernard family who presides over the destinies of the place whose particularity is to be surrounded by a forest whose high trees isolate the surrounding vineyard, thus playing a leading role. In summer, the trees lock in the heat and favor the greenhouse effect, and in winter, they accentuate the frost. The vineyard covers 37 hectares for the reds with a lot of cabernet sauvignon, a little merlot then some traces of cabernet franc and petit verdot. The white wine, perhaps even more famous than the reds, is produced from 5 hectares planted with Sauvignon and Sémillon, the former accounting for 70% of the surface. The elaboration of the wines is placed under the sign of A sentence highlighted on their website: the man is only a revealer, the terroir dominates everything. Here is a beautiful statement of humility that informs on a very simple approach, the erasure of the man in front of the earth and the vine.
