Almost two and a half centuries old, Château La Garde has been in the hands of the Dourthe group since 1990. It is the quality of its low ridges, perhaps the most beautiful in Pessac-L & eactoognan, which motivated this bought by the group which owns several domains retained by Bernard Burtschy as the castles Le Boscq, Reysson or Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figea. The 53 hectares of vines are conducted in fight reasoned to produce healthy grapes by avoiding the use of chemicals and other pesticides. The grape variety gives pride of place to the merlot and cabernet sauvignon, followed by cabernet franc, petit verdot and sauvignon blanc and gris, the latter two grapes used in the composition of the château's white wine.At the cellar, everything is implemented to best express the fruits and parcels, including batch vinification and aging in barrels, with a proportion of new wood depending on the vintage and the cuvées.Les Château La Garde wines are today greeted by critics and the international press.

Owner Description

The origins of the estate date back to the 18th century. The very pretty chartreuse built in 1732 was then surrounded by some vineyards but mostly wood. The vineyard Domaine de Lagarde 's ' s enlarged in the XIX to become one of the largest in Martillac, covering the most beautiful croupes dominating the commune.This exceptional terroir, surrounded by the largest of the appellations Pessac Leognan, seduit Dourthe who bought the property in 1990. Covering the most beautiful croups of Martillac, the vineyard of 53Ha enjoys a Haute Couture viticulture , where nothing is left to chance to always obtain the most beautiful grapes: the diversity of soils is perfectly repertoriee; the grapes are precisely adapted; the vineyard is conducted in respect of the environment and the soil with a reasoned viticulture and certain parcels cultivated in Bio and Biodynamie. Only the finest grapes are brought to the winery whose renovations over the past few years allow a 'à la carte' treatment depending on each lot, respecting the terroir. Once vinified, the different lots are aged in barrels, in a superb underground winery. Like most Pessac Leognan, Ch La Garde produces a superb blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Sauvignon Gris- and Chateau La Garde Rouge-a harmonious blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Petit Verdot.
