In the 16th century, the family of Roseing and the family of Lestonnac succeed on the lands of the vineyard Mission Haut-Brion. A century later, the heirs of the family of Lestonnac give the estate in legacy to the Brothers Lazarists or "Congregation of the Mission", from where the current name. The Vincentian Brothers, who are in charge of the vineyard until the revolution, contribute greatly to developing the quality and to establishing the reputation of the wine, since it was commonly served at the tables of the Archbishop of Bordeaux and the Duke of Richelieu. The revolution put an end to this golden age. From the late eighteenth to the beginning of the twentieth century, The Mission passes into the hands of five proprietors, including the Chiapella family, a major shipowner in New Orleans who makes the wine widely known. in America. In 1919, turning point, the Woltner family acquired The Mission. Its contribution is considerable financially and technically, with, inter alia, the introduction of a new type of vats to better control fermentations. Finally, in 1983, the Dillon family, already owner of the neighboring Château Haut-Brion, bought the estate. In 2008, Prince Robert of Luxembourg, grandson of Douglas Dillon, former ambassador of the United States in France and former Secretary of the Treasury of President J.-F. Kennedy, becomes President of the Estate, which Jean-Philippe Delmas assures management. Since its acquisition, the Dillon family has dedicated passion and energy to pursue the business venture for nearly five centuries. In 2007, after several years of work, new cellars, a tasting room, a bottling center and a storage center were inaugurated. The vineyard, which occupies 25.6 ha, is located in Talence at the exit of Bordeaux, opposite Haut-Brion. The soil is gravelly with clay-limestone subsoil. The grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (41%) and Cabernet Franc (11%). The planting density is 10,000 vines / ha and the average vines are 27 years old. In white, the vineyard of 3.6 ha is planted with seed (63%) and sauvignon (37%). The average age is 63 years and the planting density is 10 000 vines / ha. The estate produces in red the great wine and a second wine "The Chapel of the High Mission- Brion ", and in white a great wine that succeeds since the 2009 vintage at Château Laville Haut-Brion.
